Cornwall Awaits Star-Studded Golfing Tournament
With just a few days to go, the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship has unveiled more star names set to grace the stunning grounds of Trevose Golf and Country Club in Padstow, Cornwall.
And in a region renowned for its seafood delicacies, familiar face and TV chef Jack Stein will be on hand to cook up a storm for the golfing legends in a pre-tournament cooking school.
The Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship, which takes place between 17-20 June, will see world-renowned golfers battling it out for first place and a €50,000 prize, as well as giving amateur golfers a chance to showcase their skills on world-famous grounds.
The very first event on the newly formed Legends Tour, it is among the first to set the stage for star names of the game to take to the tee after a pandemic-hit golf season, with tournament host Ian Woosnam OBE on hand alongside newly announced competitors, Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjørn and US Open winner Michael Campbell.
Ian, who was the first Welshman to win a major championship and earn his green jacket at The Masters, spoke of great anticipation to be returning to golfing action and Cornwall.
“It’s great to be the host of this tournament,” Woosnam said. “It’s pretty special when you put your name to something. This part of the world is famous for fish with some great restaurants.
“It’s a fantastic place to come and spend a few days playing golf. It’s a true links so you can play a little bit more aggressive on the fairways and into the greens.
“I’m sure everybody’s going to be excited to get out and be playing."
Prior to event proceedings, Ian and more will take part in a Rick Stein Cooking School on June 16, headed up by TV chef Jack Stein, where the Legends will test out their cookery skills and compete against one another on a variety of dishes, including a main consisting of a bouillabaisse of sea bass, gurnard, and prawn.
And despite easing the pros into tournament week, Ian expects a little friendly rivalry to be at play:
“I’m sure we’ll all have an eye on one another’s workstations, it’s a chance to earn a mini-victory ahead of tournament week!”
Joining Ian in competition in Cornwall are golfing legends including 1999 Open champion, Paul Lawrie OBE, Ryder Cup star Peter Baker and British Masters champion Barry Lane, offering a star-studded experience and a thrilling, competitive atmosphere.
Furthermore, amateur golfers will be presented with the opportunity to play alongside their golfing role models, with the Pro-Am team event kicking off proceedings on Thursday 17 June.

Throughout the Championship there will also be plenty of opportunities to raise money for charity with the Lord’s Taverners. The charity is the UK’s leading sports disability charity.
