Jean van de Velde to play at Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship

Jean van de Velde is the latest star name announced for this year’s inaugural Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship.

Over the course of his career Jean has won two European Tour events and represented Europe in the Ryder Cup. But he shot to fame in 1999 during the Open Championship, in what has gone down in history as one of the greatest years in the competition’s history.

Taking centre stage for an iconic moment Jean was leading by three shots going into the final hole, and victory was within grasp. However, it wasn’t to be as he dropped shots ending up in a three-way playoff which was won by Paul Lawrie OBE handing the Scotsman the title.

Despite this, the image of Jean walking through the water looking for his ball has gone on to become one of the most iconic in the tournament’s history and earned him worldwide fame.

“I am delighted to be taking part in the tournament. Links golf always provides a great test for golfers of all standards and I have heard great things about Trevose. This will be a fantastic addition to the Staysure Tour schedule.”

Other stars joining Jean at Trevose Golf & Country Club for the four-day event include 1991 Masters winner and event host, Ian Woosnam OBE, 1999 Open champion Paul Lawrie OBE, Italian star Costantino Rocca and European Tour star Peter Baker.

The highly anticipated event will take place between 20-23 June and you can get your hands on FREE tickets for the championship by clicking here
