Team Trevose come out on top in opening day Pro-Am

The Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship got off to a great start yesterday with the opening day Pro-Am.

European Tour legends and Ryder Cup winners got to grips with the tricky Championship course, and it was team Trevose who came out on top. Lee Cunningham, Matt Gunn, Ben Treleaven and their professional, three time European Tour winner Miguel Angel Martin scored 94 points to clinch victory.

They finished three points ahead of the second placed team, Champions (UK) plc 3 who finished the day on 91. The runners-up team was made up of six-time European Tour winner David Gilford and the three amateur players, Ivan Knezovich, Greg Van Laun and Glyn Rowett.

Third place went to the Staysure Amateur Golf Tour who were joined by professional Gary Evans, as well as Martin Taylor, Mark Stacy and Claire Howells.

It was a great way to get the inaugural event underway, as stunning sunshine bared down on the course throughout the day.

Following the day’s play, the off-course action was equally as enjoyable. As well as a prize giving ceremony which saw team Trevose presented with their prizes.

Event host Ian Woosnam OBE welcomed guests before a fascinating Q&A got underway. Hosted by former British Olympic athlete and keynote speaker Derek Redmond, 1999 Open champion Paul Lawrie OBE and French star Jean van de Velde gave an insight into their incredible careers.

Entertainment came in the form of Britain’s Got Talent comedian Kev Orkian.
